Two long years of mistakes boiled down to one thick slip of a mess
By the time we second-guessed our second guess
The second guessing was getting reckless
Now I’m counting pennies for beer

“Maybe I shouldn’t get drunk tonight”
I’ll get ashamed at the checkout
I’ll get the spins on my bed
I’ll get a headache in the morning and
I’ll get drunk later again
One year later I’ve developed habits like a mason
I’ve built walls like the brick-layer I am
And I thought I’d left some windows
But I’m not sure that I’m tall enough
To see out of them
Watching all my favorite people
Turn into the best versions of themselves
And never knowing how to grow like that myself
